Msgr. J. Colby Grimes, age 50, died early Friday, April 18, 2003 at Ohio State Medical Center. Msgr. was pastor of the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, New Albany, Oh. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Edward J. Herrmann on June 10, 1978.

During his priesthood, Msgr. Grimes served as associate pastor of Columbus Immaculate Conception and Grove City Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parishes. He was a teacher at Bishop Ready High School and Principal of Bishop Flaget High School in Chillicothe. Msgr. Grimes was former pastor of St. Stephen Parish, Holy Spirit Parish and St. Andrew Parish.

He also served as Police and Fire Chaplain, Chaplain to the City Council of Columbus and served as a member of the Priests' Salary Committee, Priests' Senate and the College of Consultors for the Diocese of Columbus. Msgr. was also Chaplain of the Shamrock Club of Columbus, involved in ministry to the deaf throughout his years in the priesthood, and was St. Charles Soccer Team Chaplain. Eagle Scout, attendee of Boy's Nation 1969 and belonged to many other organizations and activities.

Msgr. graduated from Bishop Watterson High School and St. Gregory Seminary, Cincinnati. He also received his Masters of Divinity from St. Mary's of the West, Cincinnati and a Masters of Education from Xavier University.

Msgr. is preceded in death by his father Daniel Grimes, brother Kenneth and aunt Nancy Quinn. He is survived by his mother, Frances Falter Grimes; sister, Kathleen (Jeff) Wilburn; brother, Leo (Theresa) Grimes; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Christopher Wilburn, and Colby, Daniel and Kenneth Grimes; aunts and uncles, Richard (Dorothy) Falter, J. Charles Falter, Carolyn (Pat) Murnane, Colby (Georgia) Grimes, Msgr. Kenneth F. Grimes and Sue Haney; special friends, Paul and Linda, Matthew, Connie and Mark Saelzler.
